Hi All, due to employment uncertainties I have been forced to look into alternative form of income, thus I have published my first novel. It is a light-hearted fantasy story set in the mythical county of Lyonnesse. I hope it will appeal to fans of the great Douglas Addams and Terry Pratchett, and those that like something a little off beat. The main character is, of course, a biker, who accidently stumbles into Lyonnesse.

On the basis that I need as much publicity as possible I am advertising it here J.

It is available from amazon  http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BNWH4KI

And if you don’t own a kindle a free kindle reader for the PC is downloadable from:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1000426311&tag=googhydr-20&hvadid=7442400567&ref=pd_sl_6g97entshf_b

and for Mac reader from:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=kcp_mac_mkt_lnd?docId=1000464931

It is also available in several other formats from smashwords https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/291239

And a free reader is available for Adobe Digital Editions here:

http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/

It is reasonably priced and is something to read on a cold wet Sunday afternoon when going for a ride or shivering in the garage does not seem appealing.

You can also follow the books on Twitter

https://twitter.com/LyonnesseTales

And Facebook

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Lyonnesse-Tales/202978186506930

Thanks for taking the time to read this and if it takes your fancy please give feedback or better still a review.

Regards Rick

Sorry, it is only E-published at the moment. Like many, I got tired of the endless rounds of rejections, with out it even being read. It got as far as a second read with one publisher but most only take work through agents and agents only take on published authors. I'm sure you have all heard the J.K. Rowling rejection stories. So with work on the wane it was time to do something.
And thanks for the well wishes.

P.S. sorry link is to amazon.com, the book is on the .co.uk site but I copied the links from the formatters I used and they are in the US

Yes it's been impossible to get a publisher to look at anything for possibly 20 years, "do not send manuscripts / agencies only", not helped by the little companies, who might be more helpful, disappearing or being swallowed up by the big ones. Books are 'designed' by in-house commitees these days I'm afraid. In terms of, "for next year we want books about X Y and Z, go find somebody to write them."

OK, may be different in USA Big%20smile

I used to get Writers and Artists Yearbook fairly regular, alarming how the number of books and magazine houses were shrinking, often absorbed by big names like Collins, with the addendum "we do not accept new manuscripts"

In UK you need to either be prepared to play a long and hard game, constantly submitting work to publishers who will accept them or get an agent to take you on. Agents are like publishers and tend to pick and choose who they think can make them money.
You might have a netter chance if the content becomes topical in some way - but you are right, publishers tend to plan in advance what they will bring out, they are a business like any other

have you considered joining ALCS - they are the authors rights organisation in UK and do provide advice regarding getting published

I did consider the US, and always welcome any assistance, what put me off was that the book is very English in its humour and perhaps too subtle for the American market.
The book had sat on my shelf for years untouched, I had done a fairly extensive job of sending it off to agents and publishers and even had a tickle from Harper Collins, but as with everything, including books, it is what we are told we want to buy rather than what we actually want to buy that gets marketed.

I had forgotten about the ALCS and will look into it. I did join a couple of groups for writers first time around but that was twenty years ago nearly.

I'm not after getting rich, just enough to get by on. (waits for violins to start playing hearts and flowers). My job looks like it is going down the pan so I dusted the book off and gave it a go.

Congratulations!
R/T this evening.
If you wanted to get into print (not an essential thing these days) then Sam Manicom may be of help and also Mathew Cashmore (on Twitter).
Best of luck with it all

Still doing it.

It seems like it might be them doing visitors tracking or somesuch. But I'm just guessing. Whatever, malware alerts are not good news, can put you on search engine black lists!

caption.js is one of 3 scripts in the path root/media/system/js/

The others are called mootools-core.js and core.js

still waiting for a reply from the host. It's a joomla based site and I don't know all the ins and outs. Tried it from work and it was ok with their anti virus as well. Have you tried going straight to the site instead of from the link?

PS: gave me a chance to look at the code, nothing obvious but the Javascripts are written in a way that makes them look like phishing type scripts, e.g. 'a', 'b', 'c', for variable names

Why would your web page need to access a SQL database whenever somebody visits it?

I don't understand it myself but apparently " the website is in joomla which is a content management system and holds php code files that tell it what to do and the content and users etc in a database - mysqli ..."

Hopr this means more to you than it does to me
