Morning all
I'm looking for info and pictures related to the 2009 Mg Bellagio. I would like info on the optional screen and luggage that's available for this bike. Screen... Does anyone have any pictures of the MG screen fitted to their bike. I'd also like to know how effective it is. Leather luggage Again I'd love to see some pictures of the MG leather (looking) panniers fitted to a Bellagio. I'd be interested to know how practical they are in bad weather. I cant see how wide they are on the bike too so a rear shot would also be helpful. Id like to see the frame that's left on the bike so that I can see what the bike would look like on a Sunday ride out.. Speedo Noticed on some other pics on this board that the speedo on the Bellagio is in KPH. Can you guys confirm this is the case for UK spec bikes? I have previously owned a 1200 Sport but had to exchange it for another brand due to it continually letting me down on my daily commute. If I go for a Bellagio it will be used daily in most weather conditions except for snow and nasty salty roads. I need to know how practical it'll be as a commuter. Lastly, Im looking at a Griso 8v too so would love to hear about you're thoughts on whether I should go for the Griso or Bellagio... MY only concern about the Bellagio is that I may find it a tad slower. I'm not a sports bike rider but I like having the grunt to be able to get past a few slow cars when needed. Thanks in advance for any info, opinions and pictures... |

Hi Pupton I ride a Bellagio 2007 model which is the all matt black version. As far as I'm aware the only change for the 2009 model is that the colour has been changed to a gloss metallic silver with white striping and a revised seat design to give more pillion space has been added. I believe that the matt black version may still be available, certainly when I was looking dealers had ex: demo machines available and a couple of very low mileage 1 owner examples were sitting in showrooms. For luggage I currently use a Kriega R25 rucksack but expand on this by strapping US10 tailpack to the pillion and a magnetic map holder to the tank. I have on order the larger of the 2 official MG tank bags but I will be trying this before committing to purchase as I am not 100% clear on how it will look on the bike. I did some searching on the web and found pictures of the bags but only through google did I find the items actually fitted to the bike. The screen was fitted after about 2000m on mine and for my type of riding I find it ideal as it takes away some of the wind blast on a motorway but also gives you something to hide behind in the rain. The speedo reads in both KPH and MPH with the MPH figures being the smaller of the two around the inner of the clock. Certainly clear enough once you get used to it. I considered a 1200 Sport before changing up to the Bellagio from my Breva 750 and was put off by the extra weight and increased running costs. I use the Bellagio all year round so have fitted heated grips and handlebar muffs which have proved invaluable on my daily commute and longer journeys during the winter. I tend to stick to A and B roads wherever possible and always have enough power on tap for overtaking, the engine is amazing, so flexible and the exhaust sounds great when you open up. As far as all year round use is concerned I have liberally coated mine with ACF50, rinse it upon my return home with cold water, lightly wash it over once a week and then top up the ACF50 coating. I had problems with a few nuts vibrating loose, side stand mount, headlamp retaining screw and bar end weight, and the speedo sensor was replaced this week after failing but other than these teething problems all has been well. I only travel about 10 miles each way to and from work covering A roads and town traffic so the comparative agility and slimness of the bike works well for me but last month I travelled down to Bristol and back (about 350m in the day through freezing fog on the way down and rain on the return) without any problems and Harrogate last week using A roads on the way up and motorway on the return. All taken in the bikes stride. Hope this helps with your decision about the bike. Can't comment on the Griso as I haven't ridden one - I do like the looks though but have heard that the seat is quite hard and fuel consumption can be heavy. I get no less than 45mpg and up to 50+mpg when ridden conservatively. I love the bike and find that it suits me down to the ground. The ride is comfortable, the engine fantastic (6 gears and willing to rev) and the look individual. Try and get a test ride it's one of MG's little known gems. A Bellagio with panniers can be seen in this MCN video of the new 1200 Sport road test as they tour the factory beforehand and show the bikes prepped and ready for an exhibition: http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults/videos/2008/november/nov0308-moto-guzzi-1200-sport/?&R=EPI-103955 If the link doesn't work go to the MCN website and search Video 1200 Sport. Thanks for the info. Would you happen to have some detailed pics of the screen that you have fitted to your bike?

Had a look at the video and the "B" does look very smart with the luggage fitted... Do you know anything about it? Whats it made of, how big, how secure, whats the brackets like and so on....
What's it like in the wet too. You mentioned that the screen helps... do you get spray off of the rear wheel, My current bike is terrible for that. I can be riding in the rain and have more spray hitting my back than my front! Heres a couple of pics I have found on MaxMoto's website. Noticed that there's a chrome panel behind the cylinder heads too... Edited by pupton - 02 Feb 2009 at 09:32 |

Hello,
I have a Silver/White Bellagio and also the screen, panniers and Guzzi Tank bag. First thing I'd say is it just a nice bike to ride. I found the screen didn't suit me and directed the wind right into my face but we are all different sizes. THE Guzzi tank bag looked great and is very nicely made but was a pain to get on and off when I refuelled so I use a magnetic tank bag now. I have not fitted the panniers yet but the frame for them is quite substantial. The panniers are about six and half inches wide. They bolt onto the frames so are not quickly detachable but come with inner bag. The seat is different to the earlier one but the ride height is also a bit lower so I can get my feet flat on the ground which I couldn't do on the matt black demoI tried. Hope this helps. |

Hi
I took the screen off the bike as it did not suit me and I so I don't have photos os screen on the bike. As I said I have not fitted the panniers yet. If pictures of the screen and panniers on their own would be helpful please let me know. |

Some pics of the panniers would be most helpful. From what I can see they are leather with the whole top hinging forward...

Pupton,
I will take a few pics of my screen close up for you. Toad, Just had a call from my dealer to say my tank bag has arrived for me to try out. I see that the bag clips onto the base panel. I presume that it was the clips that caused you problems when refuelling? |

The tank bag has clips at the front and a strap that goes under the tank/frame at the rear.
So you unclip the front of the bag and lift it up the front of the bag to fill up with fuel. My problem is that I like to sit on the bike so its level when filling up, so the Guzzi bag was right in the way. With the magnetic bag it easy to lift it right off and the way. |

Thanks for those... Whats the tennis ball for?
Edited... figured it out... Its a visor cleaning sponge? Noticed that the screen and brackets is a pretty substantial bit of kit so I assume its rock solid out on the road... Edited by pupton - 02 Feb 2009 at 18:00 |

Yes, visor cleaning sponge. The screen comes with a sticker applied saying that the bike shouldn't be ridden above 80mph with the screen fitted but it seems fine above that. Rock solid at all times.

my partner has a bellagio and its fab - i've ridden one and would completely endorse. Its far more versatile than a griso and i would be very confident of spending day(s) touring on it. The griso (I had one for a year and put 20k miles on it) is a beautiful bike but very uncomfortable, both ergonomically and suspension wise - OUCH!! Unfortunately, it looks so good you can easily think you'll cope - I thought so and punished myself in the 20k miles i did. Stick with the bellagio - plenty of go too.

Interesting hearing from you Yanto. having done 20k on a Griso you obviously know the bike.
My main riding is commuting :-( but I do expect my new ride to be able to cope with a tour and the odd long day trip... |

Pannier instructions say, do not put more than 5 kg into each. Again I go touring with my paniers so they carry a whole lot more than 5 kg each... I think it's just one of those if we say this we're covered in case... things ![]() |

At a guess and without looking under the rear mudguard I would guess the fixing points would be the footrest hangers and if poss where the indicators fix to the frame? That would be a start anyway. On the older Guzzis panniers frames fit to the top of the frame about where the mid point of the seat is with 1 hole thro a lug on the frame and an inverted V so 2 points go to the pannier frame. The second mount goes to the footrest hanger a slightly kinked bar from the footrest hanger to the pannier frame. The 3rd fixing is a bar that passed behind the No plate area and is juts to stabilise the end of the pannier frames together (I bolted it to the back of the metal No plate fixing. On alot of these the indicators are re positioned onto the frame. Hope this helps Ken |

There's a picture of the Bellagio with a rack fitted on the Squadra Guzzista site here:
http://www.guzzista.myclan.me.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1389&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=v+twin&start=45 This probably attaches to the same points on the bike. |

Well the picture mentioned by David above, shows that the rack uses the top rear footrest mount, and then a bracket which comes out under the mudguard, just below, and slightly in front of, the indicator.

Hi Pupton, I've had my Bellagio for 8 months now and love it. I've not ridden the 1200 but I am lucky enough to also run a Norge 1200 which I use for my daily comute into London. I try and keep the Bellagio for just dry weather riding/comuting however I've just had heated grips fitted, and with Handlebar muffs as well, the bike is fine to ride in cold weather (albeit a bit cold on the chest and legs).
I've had a screen on order for ages now (apparently the MG computer is up the spout in Italy and they are behind on back orders)
I think If I had to choose between the Bellagio and the Norge I would go with the Bellagio. The engine is so sweet and sounds fantastic. The Norge is a bit more "thumpy" but still smooth. Also I find the Bellagio more comforatable. The Norge has a longer tank and I find it a bit of a stretch to the bars which unfortunatley for me is aggrevating a shoulder injury I have.
I've done a long journey on the Bellagio (650 miles in 24 hours) and up to about 80mph I find it fine. Above that my head starts to get a bit beaten up so I'm hoping the screen will help (when it arrives!). Obviously you can't beat the Norge for long distance riding but I think on balance for relaxed touring (i.e. A & B roads I would much rather be on the Bellagio). I owned a BMW R1200GS Adv prior to the Bellagio/Norge and must say that after my epic journey on the Bellagio I felt fresher and more relaxed than when I've done the same on the BM, which I think speaks volumes for the Bellagio.
My only issue with the Bellagio is the suspension set up. I'm running it on stock settings and I find it quite "jittery" on rough roads (i.e. B roads in Kent which are a disgrace). I' m still trying to find the right settings for me.
Hope this helps

I've softened the suspension up on mine to smooth things out on the rougher roads and it has improved things |

All the info you guys are providing is very helpful. All I need to do as of early March is find a dealer that'll let me have one for a while. My local dealership, Haywards no longer runs a Bellagio demo...

If Haywards are your local dealer, you'd do well to keep them close, the've looked after me very well & have an excellent reputation. I'm sure before long, a Bellagio will pop up there for a trial.................
