Thousands of bikers from throughout the country are planning a spectacular mass ride through Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire on Mothers Day to honour soldiers who have lost their lives in Afghanistan.
More than 1,000 riders are expected to ride through the Wiltshire town on Sunday March 14 and then gather on the runway at RAF Lyneham. They will there hand over funds raised for the Afghan Heroes charity set up last September by a group of mothers who lost their sons in Afghanistan. The bikers will descend on Wiltshire from throughout the UK and gather at the Leigh Delamere services on the M4 (Junction 17 - eastbound) before the mass ride through Wootton Bassett to RAF Lyneham at 12 noon where the fallen were repatriated into the UK. Each rider will pay £5 (on the day) and receive a special commemorative Afghan Heroes wristband, which will be their entry pass to the RAF base. All proceeds raised from the ride will go to the Afghan Heroes charity, which helps our service personnel in theatre, families of the fallen and our returning troops. (With thanks to the website)

I do not in any way agree that we should be fighting in Afghanistan but I am so proud of our men and women out there doing their damndest in atrocious conditions.
Unfortunately, I don't expect to have a bike on the day but I'll have a look at the website. Hopefully there will be the opportunity to make a donation there?

This is already a sticky topic in General banter, without the political overtones which I have removed.

Hang on a minute. "......political overtones which I have removed." ??
When did the MGGB Forums become a nanny state and how can you remove political overtones from something as emotive as people dying or losing vital body parts for no clear reason?
As far as I am aware, most members are actual adults, old enough to vote and even have thoughts of their own.

There is a clear reason, Brown wants to be re elected and pulling out now will scupper that.
They should never have been sent.
This year will cost more than last.
None of the above is political, just obvious.

The support of our troops and their families is an apolitical issue. ie. without politics. I would not want that clouded with any politics about who was right or wrong to send them there in the first place.

Fair enough.
I just worry somewhat about censorship. Another forum I used to belong to censored just about anything, including queries about why something had been censored. Very 1984.

If someone wants to have a political discussion on this forum, go ahead, and I'll join in. I just want to keep the two seperated. It was not intended as censorship.
The only things I will censor are those which risk the future of this website and forum, ie. contravene our agreement with the webspace provider.

Not a forum for me, uber alles Brian, bye.

As an ex soldier I still feel that Iraq was illegal and stupid.
Afganistan is simply stupid.
Niether have made Britain or the world safer.
I also support the blokes(and blokess's) doing a job in incredible circumstances.

Surely the moderator is tasked with editing offensive comments and personal attacks? As most Guzzisti are adults - even if not all actual grown-ups - anything else is frankly insulting.

I agree entirely with Ian. But please don't let a political argument get in the way of the reason for the ride. That would be degrading to those most in need.
