The Basics
How a 4 Stroke Engine Works
The cycle of a 4-stroke engine consists of 4 parts:
- Intake - a fuel and air mixture gets sucked into the cylinder
- Compression - the mixture gets compressed to make the effects of combustion more powerfull.
- Combustion - the mixture is ignited with a spark from the spark plug and expands as it combusts (burns)
- Exhaust - the exhaust (burnt gasses) is pushed out of the cylinder by the piston
